Series Features

THE XEBA UNIT IS A COMBINATION LINE VOLTAGE AND 48 VOLT DC BALLASTING ARRANGEMENT. IT CAN FIT INTO ALMOST ANY FIXTURE HOUSING WITHOUT DIFFICULTY. THE XEBA UTILIZES THE SAME LAMPS THAT ARE OPERATED BY THE AC BALLAST UNDER NORMAL MODE.

Applications

THE OPERATIONS BUILDINGS OF THE VARIOUS TELEPHONE COMPANIES THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES UTILIZE A 48VDC SYSTEM TO MAINTAIN THEIR PHONE SERVICE DURING POWER OUTAGES. IN MOST CASES THEY CARRY MANY THOUSANDS OF AMPERE HOURS OF CAPACITY FOR PROLONGED PERIODS OF EMERGENCY USE. SILTRON HAS DEVELOPED EQUIPMENT AND COMPONENTS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE FACT THAT THE TELEPHONE COMPANY HAS, IN HOUSE, AND UNDER CONSTANT SURVEILLANCE, THESE LARGE BANKS OF HEAVY DUTY BATTERIES.

AT THE PRESENT TIME THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF INSTALLATIONS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY OPERATING SUCCESSFULLY. ALTHOUGH THESE DEVICES ARE RESTRICTED TO TELEPHONE COMPANY USE, THEY ARE USED EXTENSIVELY IN EACH TELEPHONE COMPANY BUILDING. AS A RULE, THE OPERATIONS BUILDINGS ARE WINDOWLESS AND ARE SECURITY TIGHT ENVIRONMENTS. IN THE EVENT OF A BLACKOUT THERE IS NO LIGHT AVAILABLE EITHER NIGHT OR DAY. CONSEQUENTLY, IT BECOMES IMPORTANT TO USE THESE IN VARIOUS PLACES WITHIN THE BUILDING.

Operation

WHEN POWER FAILS, THE XEBA UNIT AUTOMATICALLY TRANSFERS THE 48 VDC WIRES TO ITS INTERNAL INVERTER BALLAST FOR OPERATION OF ONE 20, 30, OR 40 WATT FLUORESCENT LAMP. WHEN POWER IS RESTORED, ALL LAMPS WITHIN THE FIXTURE REVERT TO LINE VOLTAGE OPERATION. THE INVERTER BALLAST USED DURING THE BLACKOUT IS ALWAYS AT REST UNTIL CALLED INTO SERVICE BY THE BLACKOUT CONDITION. THIS RESULTS IN ALMOST UNLIMITED LIFE AND VERY LOW MAINTENANCE.
